CIDS Member’s Auction and Potluck – Auction List Included

On Sunday, May 15th, we will be having our annual Members Only Auction and Potluck. We will begin gathering at 12:00pm, and the potluck will begin shortly thereafter. The auction should begin around 1pm.

This event has previously been held at the Rochester Community Building, but we are excited to be using the Washington Park Botanical Garden building for this years auction. We will be in the same room that we use for our Plant Sale in August.

This event is reserved for current members of CIDS, and your dues must be paid in-full before the day of the auction in order to participate. This auction is an opportunity for CIDS members to obtain new daylily cultivars (usually) at lower-than-retail prices.

The majority of the plants that will be available for sale are coming from Brown’s Ferry Gardens, which is owned/operated by Charles and Heidi Douglas. The list of plants from this source is located below. CIDS members are encouraged to bring increases from the plants purchased through our clubs Plant Drawing program, and members may also donate other plants to be sold, with all proceeds going to CIDS. CIDS Meeting – Friday, September 11th, 7:00pm – Rochester Community Room

Our next club meeting will be on Friday, September 11th, at 7pm at the Rochester Community Building in Rochester, IL.
This is our “Member Showcase” meeting, where photos and stories from YOU – CIDS Members – will be shared. If you have a daylily story, adventure, photo essay, or even just a few favorite pictures from your garden, please contact Jacob Braun. He will assemble the submissions and prepare a PowerPoint presentation to be seen by all.
**All entries are accepted – no matter how great or small **
Also, DON’T THROW AWAY YOUR SCAPES! We will once again be having a friendly competition for the daylilies growing in your garden. Prizes will be awarded for:
– The tallest scape
– The scape with the most branching
– The scape with the highest bud count
We will accept one entry per category for each participating member. So head out and search your garden for your very best!

This is an initial announcement for the Members-Only Auction, Potluck and Meeting. This event will take place on Sunday, June 7th, 2015, starting at 1pm.

Many members are interested in the list of plants that will be available for auction. Below is a link to the list of plants that were purchased from Blue Ridge Daylilies. Additional plants may be donated or submitted to the auction.

**PLEASE NOTE: Only members who have paid their dues for 2015 will be able to participate in this auction. If you are a new member, please submit your registration BEFORE the June 7th meeting to our Treasurer, Deb Miller. Registrations on the day of the auction will not be accepted. If you have questions about this, please contact the club president.

The potluck will very similar to years past. Fried chicken will be provided by the club, along with paper products. Members are asked to bring a side dish or dessert to share (should feed approximately 10-12 people).

2015 Members-Only Auction, Potluck – June 7, 2015

Our next meeting is Sunday, June 7th, at 1pm, Rochester Community Bldg. Debra will open the doors at noon.
Last year we had too many desserts & not enough side dishes.  We ask you to consider bringing an appetizer, side dish or entrée instead of dessert. The club will provide the fried chicken. Please call Sandy at 498-7320 only if you will eat the  fried chicken so she knows how much to buy. Vegetarians be cool!
The potluck will be followed by a short meeting & the auction. Jacob needs the names of the plants you plan on donating so he can look the pictures up & put them in the slide show. Please send these to him at Br4un3r@gmail.com  now.
Sandy has been  planning & will prepare the plants from Selman’s. The Petersburg gals,
Ann & Margaret will be our auctioneers.  Bring your checkbooks & Daylily Dollars.
Good food, good company, new plants.  What more could you want?!

CIDS Meeting – Friday, April 10th, 7:00pm – Rochester Community Room

Our next meeting is Friday, April 10th, 7PM at  Rochester Community ​Building. We will go over the results of the survey we took. Jacob will give a program on using  the internet to find sites such as the AHS database, & exploring other online options.
The following meeting will be at our Potluck & Auction, June 7th, 1PM.  Sandy is ordering our plants  from Selman’s. Sandy has been to his garden &  says it’s exceptional.  If you plan on bringing donation plants for the auction please attach a label with all the AHS plant info.
Remember to E mail or send Jacob  the plant names  before the auction day so they can be in the slide show.
Our bus trip to Cottage Gardens, Josephine’s  & Missouri Botanical Gardens is June 20th. We will meet at the JC Penney parking lot between 7:00 & 7:15am .  Bus leaves at 7:30am. The cost is $30 per person. It would be a good idea to register & pay at the April 10th meeting to guarantee your  seat on the bus. If you don’ pay then you must pay by April 30th by sending a check to Debra Miller, 71 Laconwood, Springfield, Illinois 62712. After we know how many members are going we will know how many guests we can take. Debra will be taking names for a wait list. (More details attached)
Our  Daylily Show is Saturday, June 27th Washington Park Botanical Garden, 12-3.
The members Garden Tour & Picnic is July 11th, picnic at Lori Doolin’s in Glasgow,  Illinois.  More info & directions to follow.
Our annual Daylily Sale  is Saturday, August 1st, at Washington Park
Botanical Gardens 12-3. Vendors, this year your plants must have an attached label with the complete AHS information on it. Customers complained last year so let’s all accommodate them! Vendors are expected to arrive early to help with the club’s set up & your own setup. All donated plants also need the info tags on them & plants dug from the botanical garden will have them, also. Let’s keep it professional!

Club Meeting – Friday, February 13th, 2015 – 7pm – Rochester Community Room

Happy Daylily New Year!
Our 1st meeting will be on Friday, Feb. 13th at 7pm, Rochester Community Center. Since there was so much interest, we are already planning a bus trip to St Louis-the Missouri Botanical Garden.
This meeting we want your input on how we do things, so we will be discussing various activities & ideas not just verbally but also on paper.  We will all be taking a detailed survey of our likes, scheduling, suggestions, etc. We want to reflect your needs, as best we can with a group.
Please come & be a participant in the planning! Refreshments by board members.

CIDS Meeting – Friday, November 14th, 7:00pm – Rochester Community Room

CIDS will hold it’s final meeting for 2014 on Friday, November 14th, at 7:00pm, at the Rochester Community Room.

Items on the agenda include:

  • Election of officers and board members for 2015-2016
  • Annual Reports from President and Treasurer
  • Discussions about events for 2015
  • Contests for Tallest Scape, Most Bud Count, Most Branching for registered cultivars
  • “Members Showcase” where members will share images and stories from the previous season.

We invite guests to join us for this meeting, whether they come with a member or on their own.

Club Meeting – September 12th, 2014 – 7:00pm

Our next club meeting will be on Friday, September 12th at 7pm, and we will again meet at the Rochester Community Room.

We will have a business meeting, followed by a presentation on Sculpted Daylilies. Photos from the 2013 AHS Photography Contest will be displayed during our break/social time.

Club Workshop – Prepare for Show/Exhibition – Friday, June 13th, 7pm

This Friday, June 13th, at 7:00pm, at the Rochester Community Room, two of our club members – Rich Ford and Nikki Schmith – will help the rest of us learn all about Daylily Shows and Exhibitions. They’ll help us learn how to pick the right scape and bloom, travel with it to the location, clean it up, and get it entered into the show. They’ll also explain how the show is judged and how points are scored, just in case you like those details, too. ***This will not be a club meeting, with club business, plant drawings, etc. ***
