probably won't come back to this one, but that's just because of how much i'm over rock n roll. probably 30 minutes later, the rain subsided and the race resumed.  each year there seems to be less bands along the route. i don't remember as many as they mentioned in the email and it should only count as a mister if there's sufficient water coming out to cool you. all in all this is a fun race series and i would recommend doing it at least once. at times it would freak me out because you can feel the vibration of every step, and since the gaps between the grating sections were pretty big i would have the sensation of falling at the same time. i ran the 5k this year and will definitely be back next year to run the half marathon.  i will say that they try to make up for it along the lakefront where they have a dj and line the path with speakers that cover a mile or so.  as i mentioned before, this particular race was my very first half marathon and it holds a special place in my heart. have been running the rock n roll series for 8 years now and have loved every race in every city up until now. she was an older (maybe i'd even say "elderly") african-american lady with one of the group of church volunteers and when i ran up took the gatorade from her, i exclaimed, "gatorade! only reason i give 4 and not 5 stars is because the last chunk of the race is down and up the lake.’ll start downtown, run through the loop, cross the chicago river, past the theater district and willis tower before continuing along the magnificent mile.  (i've done many 5k 10k in chi, never a half) it is redemption time, regardless of my run time! it fits nicely into the marathon training schedule and i'm weirdly loyal enough to want to keep the streak alive. just keeping my fingers crossed for a cooler day (and more water) for next year's race! was my second rock n roll chicago and forth one overall.  and just here to make as much money off people as possible. this year, the ferris wheel was depicted on the 10k and half medals, in honor of chicago's new ride. first half marathon so i'm quite please with the route. fees are non-refundable and non-transferable unless you have purchased the registration refund coverage option at the time of registration and have a covered reason.. my least favorite part of any training route or race in chicago. the expo was mediocre and you couldn't pick up bibs for friends or family which was absurd. i love me a good misting station when it's hot and i'm running. down to see the #winning swag you’ll earn when you rock the windy city! aspera had a big sale with their backpacks, and there was a section towards the back end of the expo that had a big selection of discounted sports clothing.-packet pickup is super easy and well stocked with volunteers, no waiting in line for packets. then, true to chicago weather, slightly overcast skies turned into a drizzle and amped up into a downpour, complete with thunder and lightning.  it's also very pricey, something that's a common theme for the rock n roll series. in other cities, like cleveland, phoenix, and san diego, the bands and entertainment are consistently spaced throughout the course; however, in chicago, because it starts so early (since the race is in the dead of summer) and meanders through residential areas, they keep it a bit lower-key with just a couple cheer/spirit groups for the first several miles.  the race organizers knew it and tried to prepare, but the aid station volunteers couldn't keep up.

if you do the 5k the day before, and the half you are entitled to the remix medal. give meaning to your miles – choose your fundraising level and get ready to rock!  a few years ago they made the switch to gender specific shirts and it is a lot better. too bad there was very little rock in the rock and roll half marathon. the next water stop (which was critical for a lot of folks due to the concentrated gatorade fiasco) didn't have any water ready, you had to grab a cup and wait for someone to fill it from the hose. race day (july 16), the average low is 67°f and the average high is 85°f. in fact, all i experienced was hot, humidity and rain. end of the race party is great and if you can handle the remix challenge, go for it! course is mostly flat, which is nice and makes for an easy-enough run. i'm pretty tall and i don't like people being taller than me.) anyway, they got the socks to me & the shirt and i was dead set on making 2013 chicago happen.  i think there were only a couple of product samples in the goody bag and no more pf changs after the race. run this cityboth start and finish lines of each race were either at or close to grant park, millennium park, whatever park. always have fun at the expo and it's pretty cool that they do gait analysis and have so many opportunities to take green screen photos. starting time for the race is 6:30 am, and runners and walkers — the race is open to both — will have 3 hours and 30 minutes to complete the half marathon before the course officially closes. they have stilt walkers and a couple of cheer squads but, if you like tunes, bring your own until you reach the music.  if you've run enough half marathons (i've done 13) or done a ton of races in chicago, this one won't really stand out for you in terms of course, medal or swag. i was so impressed with the professionalism and personal attention. can also raise money with no minimum fundraising commitment and qualify for various st. then, you’ll turn onto the beautiful lakefront and run by soldier field before returning to grant park to cross the finish line into one rockin’ festival! for me, the closest exit station was cermak, which was half a mile away from the convention center. chicago's such an aesthetically pleasing city, and the course does a great job of showcasing this.“the only real problems are the price and parking, but i guess it is understandable being in the city. if you've run enough half marathons (i've done 13) or done a ton of races in chicago, this one won't really stand out for you in terms of course, medal or swag.'ve completed a handful of rock 'n' roll (half) marathons in other cities, and the well-organized and prepared expo, course, post-race are just as terrific here as with any other city. the next water stop (which was critical for a lot of folks due to the concentrated gatorade fiasco) didn't have any water ready, you had to grab a cup and wait for someone to fill it from the hose. - people travel from all over for this race, so course support is beyond encouraging- the bands are a great distraction- god sent volunteers that know what they're doing and have an upbeat attitude- bountiful gatorade, water, and gu gel stops to help you keep moving- giant and colorful medal- water mists to keep you cool- wide open lanes so no runners elbowing youcons - its freaking hot! and not as many spray stations as i hoped (good thing it rained on us).  i feel as if corporate rock n roll just took our money and said "now go run down these streets and we'll see you at the finish! 2017, the rock ‘n’ roll marathon series will be celebrating 20 years running. is no wheelchair or handcycle division available for this event.

as i mentioned before, this particular race was my very first half marathon and it holds a special place in my heart. reserve your spot in the summer 2017 running of the rock ‘n’ roll chicago half marathon or 5k, register online at the race website here.  they used to run the second half on the lakefront path and it just did not work. race to run if you are not a fan of the marathon distance, but want to challenge yourself to a half (or even a 10k/5k since they now offer that here). when my training mostly consists of sitting here drinking wine and…. really though, other people did like those freaks but just like the clowns etc, i was glad they weren't on the rock n roll route. - expensive entry fee - -110 for a half marathon isn't cheap and there are definitely better deals to be had. was told the rock and roll half marathon is a race you hate doing, but once you're done you have to sign up for the following year. you are looking for a good race in chicago i recommend the chicago spring half, chicago half, or women rock. last year this was my 8/15 races for the rock n roll hall of fame. -i would say the race has major corral regulation problems in that a lot of slower runners, and dare i say walkers, maneuver themselves into faster corrals which just causes tremendous clogging in the early going of the race.'ve completed a handful of rock 'n' roll (half) marathons in other cities, and the well-organized and prepared expo, course, post-race are just as terrific here as with any other city.- expensive entry fee - -110 for a half marathon isn't cheap and there are definitely better deals to be had.  it fits nicely into the marathon training schedule and i'm weirdly loyal enough to want to keep the streak alive. i ran the 5k this year and will definitely be back next year to run the half marathon. it was much cooler this year at 70°, but it was still pretty humid and this time rainy! join us in chicago in 2017 for our series-wide celebration of 20 years running!" it wasn't til running near the same spot and right after i'd seen the hilarious, "run bitch!  the festivities are fun and it gives me an event to look forward to in the middle of the summer. i love me a good misting station when it's hot and i'm running.  after 7 years of running this race, i have to say that there are things to love and things to not like so much about it. runners will cross over the chicago river twice in the first couple of miles, and then twice again right after passing the mile 3 marker. us for the saturday 5k and/or sunday’s 10k or half marathon and earn a champion worthy medals, designed with you in mind. -another shortfall of this race is it does not have much to do with rock and roll. andrea h, i have a soft spot for the rnr half because it was the first half marathon i ever ran; it's also why i'm rounding this 3." sign that i remembered my favorite lady handing out gatorade from last year. being said, i had a lot of fun at this race, the medal was worth it, and you can't beat that course support.-i would say the race has major corral regulation problems in that a lot of slower runners, and dare i say walkers, maneuver themselves into faster corrals which just causes tremendous clogging in the early going of the race. imagine my surprise when the only thing i heard were the pounding footsteps of runners in front of the chicago theatre and a juggler with face paint silently doing his thing.-mile course for the race starts and finishes in grant park, the 319-acre park on the city’s downtown lakefront that is home to the world-famous buckingham fountain and the art institute of chicago, both seen in many movies but perhaps most cleverly in ferris bueller’s day off. feel as if corporate rock n roll just took our money and said "now go run down these streets and we'll see you at the finish!
